I have been awaiting watermelon season for some time now, and today I purchased one! I am nervous about it, though, since (at least in my mind) it's not really summer/watermelon season yet, and I have a sinking suspicion that this brand may just be the same one that we had problems with awhile back (see this post, which for some reason, according to my stats, is the second most viewed post of our blog, behind Simon's birth story....really, what? why people?).

I haven't yet cut it open, but I'm hoping it is a good watermelon and therefore an excellent addition to this evening's family night dinner picnic of chicken and (homemade) potato salad. We shall see. We shall also see if the weather decides to cooperate and not rain for our picnic.

What else. This baby is getting big and likes to kick kick kick, and as if that isn't enough bodily harm inflicted by a child on a mother, Simon poked me so hard in the eye yesterday that my contact popped out. Babies.

I wrote about some annoying things I had to deal with tonight and last night, but I don't think I'll post it now. Sometimes it's good just to write something out and deal with it in that way (privately), rather than have it be published on the Internet (publicly).

Let's just say I'm tired and somewhat frustrated and sometimes plans don't work out, especially if the presence of other people is required and those people don't show up. And maybe I need to call people and remind them of meetings because it's quite possible that they don't have calendars with their appointments written down in their kitchens like I do.

Here is a picture of Simon:

Shortly after this, we realized this slide is not quite toddler friendly (too fast) and I have since blocked the ladder, preventing him from getting to said slide.

He still has found ways to cause trouble in the backyard, including eating/attempting to eat tanbark/dirt/chalk, coloring on me/himself/the playhouse/Jamund's bike tire/etc. with chalk, climbing on things, taking the play food/utensils/dishes out of the play house kitchen and placing them in various locales around the backyard, etc.

But it's cute, and backyard playtime is nice for me because I can usually rest (see below)

and read, etc. I am currently (re)reading Chaim Potok's The Chosen and remembering how I love Chaim Potok and books about Jewish people. Reading books is good. Although I did start reading some creepy book called something like Peregrine some such home for creepy children or something... and anyway, it was creepy and I didn't like it and quit reading it. I decided that it isn't necessary for me to read creepy books and was kind of put out for awhile that people write books like that. So reading books is sometimes good. Unless it's not.

You probably have some "omens" in your life—like when something happens in a certain way, you feel that "things" ("things" is to be taken in a very generic sense) will be good/better/etc. (or vice versa).

Some of mine:

1. Peeling an orange: if the middle white part (nice description, right?) comes out in a nice long piece along with the skin when I am hand peeling the orange, I think it's going to be a good orange. If not, well...

2. Eating a Cadbury Creme Egg: I feel like it's going to be a good egg if the wrapper comes off and isn't gooey and sticky/attached to the egg. Or at least it'll be easier. This did not happen to me with the egg I just consumed. Yucky sticky wrapper. Ugh.

I really enjoyed Easter this year. It was mellow and lovely and well documented by Jamund, mostly, although I did take some photos and videos, I think.

Here are some highlights:

Hanging out with Family

On our last day in the Bay Area (right before going to the airport, actually), we saw my aunts on my mom's side and two of my cousins!

These are my aunts, apparently looking at a different camera?

And my cousins:

(sorry for the blurry photo)

Simon loved my aunt's dog, Charlie, probably more than Charlie loved him back...well, maybe until Simon let Charlie eat some of his pizza.

After seeing these family members, we then went to Grandma and Grandpa's in Henderson. Jamund went to a conference in Arizona for a few days from Henderson, and Simon and I stayed at my parents, doing things like eating lots of treats/ice cream (still trying to get rid of the extra extra weight I put on while on this trip—pregnancy can be an excuse to gain weight, but let's be real here...), playing with trucks/puppets/etc., looking for/at bunnies, riding in the golf cart, and shopping.

Thanks for the visit, grandma and grandpa!

Field Trips with Baby

While in San Jose, we went on some "field trips." These included Happy Hollow, the Children's Discovery Museum, and Oak Meadow Park in Los Gatos.

Happy Hollow was expensive but probably the best of all:

You don't have to pay extra for the rides, so we rode a dragon and went on the carousel:

Not to mention we had the chance to hang out with some goats:

Check this guy (?) out!:

The Children's Discovery Museum was a bit of an overload, at least for me. I think Simon was too young for it, a fact that was reinforced for me as he was eating paint, etc.

I knew Oak Meadow would be a hit since Simon loves trains, trucks, and airplanes and all three are present at this classic park of my childhood.

These mornings made for a tired babe and mama, and I followed each with a lunch treat for myself: Togo's, Erik's Deli, and Sweet Pea's (crepes). I needed the reward, right?

Santa Cruz/17 Mile Drive

On our trip, we took an afternoon and went down to Santa Cruz/Monterey/Carmel. We went on the 17 mile drive, although I don't think we went all 17 miles.

Luckily, it was gorgeous that day!

We just returned home from a trip. Not necessarily a vacation since Jamund had to work and go to a Conference, but a trip.

Early one morning, we traveled to the Salt Lake Airport. Jamund and Simon apparently were dressed (almost) as twins.

Unfortunately, a lot of our stay in the Bay Area was cloudy/rainy, including our stop (after arriving) at the Oakland Temple:

Later that day, we went to Los Gatos where we drove by my old house and neighborhood. We also went downtown which would have been much nicer if it wasn't raining SO MUCH. However, we did get Icing on the Cake treats (so good) and Andale's for dinner. The day would've been a greater success had I not thrown up back at our apartment after doing some exercise.... such a waste of Andale's and Icing on the Cake!

More trip photos and "journaling" to follow...
